Forest Hills was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005 and is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Durham. It was originally laid out around a nine-hole golf course that subsequently became Forest Hills Park. This neighborhood combines history with suburban-style living in a neighborhood filled with Colonial, Tudor, and English Cottages, mostly built in the 1920s during Durham’s still-booming tobacco and fabric mill era.

Governors Club was established in 1988 and offers luxury living just five miles south of UNC campus with easy access to Chapel Hill and the surrounding areas. Situated on 1,600 acres north of Lystra Road and southwest of Mt.Carmel Church Road, this wonderful gated community features a 27 hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. A variety of custom-designed homes can be found though out the community, styles include contemporary, traditional and transitional. There are 10 neighborhoods within the gates, with lots varying in size from the Village home sites of .25 acres to the Estate sites of up to 1.5 acres and the Grand Estate sites of up to 3.5 acres. Amenities also include a fitness center with swimming and tennis.
Hope Valley is located just southwest of downtown Durham. Hope Valley was established in 1926 with a circuitous eighteen-hole golf course that was planned by J. Donald Ross. Initially, homes in the neighborhood were predominantly built in the Tudor Revival or English Cottage style. Ten of the first houses built in 1927 and 1928 were designed by George Watts Carr, Sr. Currently, there are approximately 930 homes in the neighborhood, in a range of styles and designs. Hope Valley has a wonderful clubhouse built on the highest elevation with views of the golf course. Tennis and swimming are also offered.
The Oaks was established in the 1970s and was divided into four phases. The neighborhood is home to the Chapel Hill County Club, with an eighteen-hole golf course originally designed by Gene Hamm, and re-designed in 1999 by John LaFoy. Amenities also include swimming and tennis. Home styles vary from Californian Contemporary to Colonial, traditional, and transitional.
The Hills of Rosemont is a gated community in Northeast Chatham County which consists of three phases of rolling parklands, lakes, and ponds. The neighborhood includes sixty-five lots that border Corps of Engineers land. Adjacent to the Tobacco Trail, this community enjoys easy access to Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh. Lot sizes vary from four to twelve acres. The Old Chatham Golf Course is located across the road from the development.
