Getting Your Home Ready to Sell

Curb Appeal - make sure your lawn is trimmed and that shrubbery and trees are pruned to make the house visible and light.

Check the overall appearance of the exterior of the house. Power wash and paint if necessary and make sure all porches, decks and patios are neat and in good repair.

The front door gives the vital first impression. A fresh coat of paint can make all the difference.

Other factors to keep in mind:

Keep gutters free of debris.
Replace torn or missing window and door screens.
Keep all steps free of hazards. All hand railings should be secure.
Kitchens and bathrooms should sparkle. Caulk around tubs and showers as needed.
Check furnace filters, heat registers and vent covers and replace or clean as needed.
Storage is important to most prospective homeowners. Clean out clutter in closets and cabinets to create a spacious appearance. Pack unneeded clothes and personal items.
If any decoration is needed, do it now!
Window treatments should be clean. Keep them open in the daytime to allow natural light to brighten your home.
Change light bulbs as needed. Illumination is very important, whether to create a sense of spaciousness or coziness.
Clear away all dirty dishes, put away clothes, make beds, straighten newspapers, etc. The extra time and inconvenience is worth it.
Keep pets out of the way during showings, outside if possible.
Make your home as available as possible for all showings.
